SERIES

The focus of a series of paintings can be an abstract concept, a theme, a place or a specific object. Creating in a series allows me to explore these areas in deeper more meaningful ways. It opens doors to new possibilities, new ways of exploring the topic and answering the “what if?” question.

Birch Trees

I love the graphic quality of the bark and the drama of light and shadow on birch trees. The Celts called the Birch tree “The Lady of the Woods”. Symbolizing feminine energy, they are the harbingers of promise, light and new beginnings.

ConvergenceXIII.jpg

Convergence

Convergence was conceived in the twilight state between sleep and awakening - a time of creativity when the mind is fluid and open to both conscious and unconscious images and ideas.

Abstract yet referencing the landscape, personal imagery and emotion permeates this series.

These pieces are painted on  watercolor paper, sealed, adhered to 11/2” deep birch panels and then waxed and buffed to preserve them with no need for framing (all archival materials).

Copper Veins Collage

Copper Veins

Copper Veins speaks to me of mountains and the layered landscape; the copper veins symbolic of the earth’s life force.

These pieces are painted on  watercolor paper, sealed, adhered to 11/2” deep birch panels and then waxed and buffed to preserve them with no need for framing (all archival materials).

Ghost Trees I-II-III-Mounted.jpg

Ghost Trees

The Ghost Trees series has been evolving for quite some time, first in art quilts and now in watercolor and mixed media. Jung said the tree is a symbol of growth and development of psychic life, a link to the collective unconscious. Ghost Trees appear like a phantom, seemingly in mid air, embodying the spirit of the tree.

These pieces are painted on  watercolor paper, sealed, adhered to 11/2” deep birch panels and then waxed and buffed to preserve them with no need for framing (all archival materials).

Long Meadow Brook Reserve

Long Meadow Brook Reserve has been an ongoing source of inspiration in every season. This  property is managed by the Greater Lovell Land Trust in Lovell, Maine. It is a favorite hike and plein air sketching location offering views to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, woodlands, Long Meadow Marsh and Brook.

Renewal

Renewal emerged after the Convergence series in the spring when the world was beginning to open after the pandemic. It is a pictorial narrative of hope. "Every day is a renewal, every morning the daily miracle. This joy you feel is life." -- Gertrude Stein

These pieces are painted on watercolor paper, sealed, adhered to 11/2” deep birch panels and then waxed and buffed to preserve them with no need for framing (all archival materials).
